Weekly Update – 05/11/2021

Hey folks, I hope that you are well this week. Here’s a bit of an update of things here at Downham Baptist Church, thank you so much for your prayers and continued support.

Travis and Teri are away (they’ll be coming back this weekend), with another missionary couple. They’ve been touring Europe as a means of having a joint anniversary celebration. We look forward to seeing them again and bothering them with various questions about their trip. In the meantime, let’s pray that God would keep them safe as they ravel and that they would be a blessing to those they come across.

Last weekend, we had a great time of fellowship with one another, and we are looking forward to the things happening over this coming weekend (more on that below). It was amazing to see Beau, Jasmine, and their little girl, Eden, out on Sunday to worship with us for the first time as a family of three. Let’s endeavour to support them and bless them as they adjust to family life.

On Tuesday, Sam went to Colchester to continue the work there. He was there the whole day, labouring to help build up and edify our brothers and sisters there. Please continue to pray for the work in Colchester.

On Wednesday night we continued our studies through the Book of Revelation, where we saw how John was given a bit of relief in Chapter 14, especially in light of the horrors he has seen throughout the previous Chapters. You are more than welcome to join us 7:00 PM every Wednesday night, to learn, and to allow God’s word to change how we live.

Here’s what we have planned for over the weekend:

On Saturday (tomorrow), we have our Bible Institute at 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM, followed by our weekly Community Outreach at 11:15 AM. We are excited to see how God has used the leaflets to bring people into the church over the last few months – some have stayed, some have come and gone. Still, we give thanks to the Lord.

After the Outreach, we have a Youth Event that our brother Jeff has planned. We’re having a Board Games afternoon, and we are expecting some of our youths’ unbelieving friends to come along. Please pray that God would give us the opportunity to do more than just hang out with them, but to share the Gospel also.

On Sunday, we have our Teachers’/Volunteers’ Meeting at 9:45 AM before the Small Groups. We also have the privilege of having Jason Holt minister to us. In light of that, our Small Groups will be a joined together at 10:30 AM so that we can hear from Jason and the ministry that God has given him in Chile.

We have our usual Sunday Services, the Morning Service at 11:30 AM (Jason will be our speaker), and 5:00 PM for our Evening Service.

Here are a some dates to keep in mind and note in your diaries:

  • 10th Nov. – James Wilson is taking our Midweek Meeting at 7:00 PM. Please come along, support our brother as he shares and minsters to us.
  • 14th Nov. – Membership Class after the Morning Service.
  • 7th-9th January 2022 – Winter Retreat (sorry, I got the dates wrong last week)

Last week, I mentioned that we would be in Sunderland – I got the dates wrong for that too. It will be next week when my family are up in the North East. Thank you for praying for us, despite my blunder with the dates, and we appreciate your continued prayers for us.

We love you all in the Lord. Have an awesome day.

Ric.
