Weekly Update – 11/11/2022

Hey folks, I hope that you’re all well. We have had a quieter November compared to last month where we had a few activities on. We’re blessed to be able to have this time to rest on the build up to the Christmas Season. Here’s an update of the work here at Downham.

Pray For Labourers

Over the last few months, we have seen people in the church come and go – which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as we recognise that people move houses or countries, change jobs, and other valid reasons. With this in mind, the number of people attending and committed to serving at Downham has decreased; we know that we are not dependent upon numbers and that the worship of the Lord Jesus is not about how many people turn up to services.

We are not disappointed and neither are we discouraged, but we know that because we have fewer people, we are limited in what we can and can’t do. We don’t desire to overburden with work those who are still here and serving and so to that end, please pray that the Lord would provide labourers for this corner of His harvest field.

“Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.” – Luke 10:2

A Desire For Spirituality

In light of the update above about praying for labourers, we want to take the time at Downham to reflect on what we’re doing and how much we’re doing. I believe this to be an opportunity for us to be mindful that religious activity is not the same as spirituality – a person can be involved in many religious activities but not be spiritual.

As we are limited with our religious activities, please pray for us and with us, that we would be mindful of being a spiritual people, and that we would grow in our spirituality even if we lack in religious activity.

This Weekend:

Saturday – We have our Community Outreach at 11:15 AM. We will be meeting at the Church Building and then we’ll go into the immediate community to post tracts/invites at the doors. Please pray that the people who receive these tracts will have soft and responsive hearts. Afterwards, we invite you to join us for our Thank You Party for the Quinns at 1:00 PM at the Hipolito’s place. Sam and Beth have laboured alongside us at Downham since February 2021, and now they’re ministering at Colchester – we want to thank them for their work and we want to pray for them as they continue to labour for the Lord’s sake.

Sunday – We welcome you to join us for our Small Groups at 10:30 AM, followed by our Worship Service at 11:30 AM, and plan on staying a little longer than usual as we observe the Lord’s Table as part of our service.

That’s all for now. We don’t anticipate a lot of activity until December, but we will faithfully continue to gather for the purpose of worshipping and growing in our knowledge of the Lord Jesus and of His grace. We love you all.

Ric.
