Weekly Update – 23/09/2022

Hey folks, it’s time to give another update of the Lord’s work at Downham Baptist Church. Over the last two weeks, the Lord has encouraged us in bringing visitors through our doors – some saved, and some unsaved. In all of this, we want to thank the Lord it, and we want to say thank you to everyone who has been inviting people to our church and evangelising in their own time; we’re seeing the fruits of it, and I’m heartily encouraged to see the saints doing the work of the ministry. Here’s the update for this week:

Bring & Share Fellowship

Every month we have our Bring & Share fellowship. It’s always a great time of fellowship, and there’s always great food shared around – I would definitely boast of the the culinary skills of the saints at Downham. This month’s Bring & Share surprised us, in that we had visitors, who had attended the church for the first time, join us for the fellowship meal – usually, those who visit don’t stay around for the meal. It helped us at Downham to show our hospitality and love for others. We thank the Lord for such a wonderful time together.

Update on Training Preachers

We’re continuing to train men in the church to preach, and on Sunday we had the privilege of hearing from our Deacon, Jeff Bryan. He spoke from Psalm 117, drawing out themes that stood out to him in his study of the passage. We look forward to hearing from another one of the men preach from another Psalm at the end of next month.

We want to continue building up everyone at Downham, not just those who are learning to preach. We have a desire to see the saints mature and be equipped to do the work of the ministry, as the Lord calls us to.

Upcoming Autumn Festival

Over the last few weeks, we have been announcing a Community Event on the last Saturday of October (29th October), and we’ve not had a name for it until recently. We have decided to call it, The Autumn Festival – and we want to invite you to come and experience this family/community event with us. The aim is for us to reach the immediate community by offering a Gospel-centred alternative to Halloween. Please pray that we would be fruitful in our endeavour to reach the community.

This Weekend:

Saturday – Every week we go out as a church group to evangelise. Come and join us for our Outreach, we will be meeting at the Church Building at 11:15 AM. We also want to encourage you to evangelise as you go, making the Great Commission (as stated in Matthew 28:18-20) a part of your every day living.

Sunday – We have our Small Groups at 10:30 AM, followed by a Baptism Service at 11:30 AM. We are thrilled to have one of our teens go through the waters of Baptism in obedience to the teachings of Scripture. We invite you to celebrate with us.

Other Notices:

  • Members’ Meeting – Sunday 2nd October (after the Worship Service)

That’s all for now. We love you all, and we thank the Lord for you.

Ric.
