Weekly Update – 22/07/2022

Hey folks, I hope that you’re all doing well, and thank you so much for continuing to support us in prayer. The nation has experienced a heatwave earlier this week, and we are thankful that the Lord preserved us through it and that although there have been some disruptions nationwide, by God’s grace we were able to continue the work here – nonetheless, please keep yourselves hydrated throughout the Summer. Here’s an update of what’s been happening here.

Youth Flag Football (AKA Surprise Party)

Surprise Leaving Party for the Snodes

On Saturday we held a surprise leaving party for the Snodes. For over a little a month, we advertised a Youth Flag Football Event, hoping that the Snodes wouldn’t figure out what we were up to – and it was a success. To ease our consciences about this deception, we did play Flag Football before the surprise celebration so as to be truthful in some ways.

Thank you to Heather for her hard work in organising the whole event, and for Jeff for conducting the games and activities. We would also like to say thank you and well done to everyone who was in on the surprise, and for contributing food for the celebration. You all continue to encourage me in displaying love for one another.

To the Snodes, we love you, we will miss you, we thank the Lord for you and the work that you have allowed Him to do at Downham, and we pray that the Lord would continue to use you all as vessels through which His grace and mercy can reach others in America.

Celebrating A New Member

Introducing Sola as a new Member of DBC

On Sunday, after the Morning Service, we were pleased to Welcome our brother Sola into Church Membership. We are thrilled to have him be a part of the membership so as to bless him and be blessed by him; to build him up and to be built up by him. We are confident that the Lord will continue to work in and through our brother for the purpose of edifying the Body of Christ at Downham.

If you are a regular attender of our services and would like to find out about what Church Membership is, what it involves, and why we operate with a structure; or if you are interested in becoming a member of Downham Baptist Church, please don’t hesitate to come and speak to Jeff or myself (Ricardo) and we can arrange to meet with you and discuss it.

Homework Club

On Wednesday we had our last Homework Club session for the Summer Term. We are unsure as to whether or no we will be able to continue in the Autumn Term starting in September, but what we are confident of is that we will, by God’s grace, continue to make attempts in reaching the Downham Community with the Gospel. Please pray for us, and pray that the Lord would send labourers into our corner of His field as well as praying that the Lord would challenge us all as individuals (including you, dear brother or sister) to serve Him where He has placed us.

Fellowship Groups

Every third Wednesday of the month, instead of having our regular Bible Study, we have our Men’s Fellowship and Ladies’ Fellowship. The Ladies started going through a book called “The Calvary Road” by Roy Hession, whilst the Men continued to consider the topic of “Biblical Manhood”.

This Weekend

Saturday – We have been unable to do our Outreaches on Saturdays this month (because of many other things we had going on), but we are pleased to be able to have it on tomorrow. We will be Evangelising in Bromley Town Centre, meeting at 11:15 AM at the entrance to The Glades on the High Street. The aim will be to engage people in conversation as well as handing out Gospel tracts/literature. Come and take part in the Great Commission with us tomorrow.

Sunday – Come and worship the Lord with us as we fellowship around His word this coming Sunday. We have our Small Groups at 10:30 AM, followed by our Main Service at 11:30 AM. Another reminder that we no longer have our Sunday Evening Services, however, what we do encourage you all to do is to have each each other over for lunch after the Main Service, continue to fellowship with your fellow Christians, and exhort one another in truth as you do so.

We have a few notices coming up in the next Weekly Update, but for now, here’s all we have. We love you, and God bless you all.

Ric
